STEPPING
BASICS
|
|
Step is fun, effective
and intensely challenging. Youre moving with control against
gravity and working upper and lower body muscles, with special
emphasis on the thighs and gluteals. If done correctly, stepping
can give you the aerobic benefits of running seven miles per
hour, but with no more foot impact than walking three miles
per hour. It is easier on the joints and may burn up to 30%
more calories than traditional aerobics.
Steps range in
height from four (green platform) to twelve inches high. Each
riser is 2 inches high. Watch your platform and your own feet
as much as possible. As you get more proficient, youll
acquire a sense of "territory" and be able to judge
your space on the step.
Concentrate on
getting the foot movements first and ignore the arm patterns.
Once you get the steps, you can add the arms. Anytime you get
confused, go back to basic step. If you tire, do step patterns
on the floor.
