A. Course Objectives:
Upon completion of this course the student will:
1. identify characteristics of stress and the factors which may cause it
2. demonstrate at least two flexibility exercises for each muscle group (dynamic and static)
3. be able to cue a flexibility session integrating body awareness and visualization techniques
B. Outline (2 hour lecture/workshop)
PART ONE: MENTAL FLEXIBILITY
1. MIND/BODY FITNESS: mental preparation through relaxation, visualization and process-oriented goal setting, focus, awareness of self, interrelation of both for maximum results and peak performance

4. SIGNS/SYMPTOMS/EFFECTS OF STRESS: fignt or flight response
Short term: adrenaline hormone, heartrate raises, pupils dilate, mouths get dry, increase respiration, stomach stops digestion, feeling of generalized unrest, emotional hypersensitivity,"butterflies" in stomach, nauseous, out of breath,
Long term: illness (real and imagined-psychosomatic), headaches, migraines, ulcers, loss/gain of weight, fatigue, insomnia, excessive sleeping, inability to cope with minor details, overwhelmed feeling, out of control, paranoid, depressed, angry

Excessive stress can impact work habits such as behavior presentation, problem solving, daydreaming, disorganization, frequent absences, tardiness, clock-watching, isolation, excuses, starting and finishing projects, short fuse, mood swings, cry/laugh inappropriately, regression
